They can’t hold every baby all day, but they can interact with multiple babies at once and the babies interact with each other. They do tummy time, they go in the play gym, they read, they sing songs, they do “art” (mess-free finger painting, practicing holding crayons, footprints and hand prints, finger painting paper plates to make animals…). Our daycare has all of the babies, mobile or not, in the designated floor space with the adults and toys unless they’re taking a nap, being fed, or being changed. I 100% remember being in your shoes and thinking my baby would never survive daycare, but now she is thriving there at 9.5 months old. We get updates all day about diapers/naps/food and also get pictures. They also have a “curriculum” they follow with the babies and I get a couple crafts sent home each month from them. Also they have worked with me as my baby’s feeding schedule has changed over time, recommending when to size up on the nipple, working through taking bigger bottles and stretching time between feedings, and now working on lessening bottles since she is eating so much solid food. Our daycare changes each baby every hour but if they notice poop they will change asap - even if the last diaper change was literally 10 min ago. It can be a bit chaotic at drop off/pick up because usually everyone is awake at that time and there is just a lot happening in the room - don’t let that freak you out. The teachers are magical and somehow it all gets done. Once we got through the sadness of the first couple days she has had zero issues. She was a super clingy baby (still is honestly) and would not let me leave her with anyone, but she loves her daycare teachers. My baby started daycare at 4.5 months old. If your daycare provider doesn’t make you feel like there above is going to happen, then it’s not the right provider. Rarely if ever were they in a container for any length of time. Read books, play songs, go on walks around the building or outside in good weather, do sensory activities, talk to them constantly about colors or body parts or the weather or counting, take them to the indoor play gym and do tummy time while the mobile kids played. They’d make all sorts of crafts - yes even with my 4 month old. My daycare teachers, particularly in the infant room, were so so so wonderful. They won’t treat him like a robot, they’ll still watch for clues and be responsive, like you would. I’ve also never had my kid not fed when they were clearly hungry. The schedule time is the latest they’ll check, if they catch it earlier, they’ll absolutely change them. I have never had a daycare provider make my kid sit in a poopy diaper because it isn’t schedule time.
